What we do in the People Department.

Programmes offered by the People Department support individuals to access opportunities to improve their income, skills and lifestyle. The department currently runs the following programmes:-

1. Vocational RoutewaysThis programme is aimed at moving participants into employment. The programme offers a range of “routeways” into local employment opportunities themed around key employment sectors in Cornwall such as “working with people” and “customer service skills”.
2. Cornwall Works PlusThis programme engages workless adults and helps them to overcome barriers through intensive one to one support. It helps individuals into sustainable employment and runs in Newquay, Truro, Falmouth, Penryn and surrounding areas.
3. Learning Plus and Cornwall CollegeDelivery of a range of learning programmes including ICT, Assertiveness, Arts, Cookery and Skills For Life. Delivery can be tailored to suit individual or group needs. Limited support available towards childcare and travel expenses. Entry Levels up to Level 2.
4. NextStepIndependent 30-minute information, advice and guidance sessions on learning and work for adults.
5. Skills for LifeAddressing the basic skills of those at Level 2 and below. Learners will receive a one to one initial assessment which will result in them being referred to a provision to meet their needs. Programmes are available to support both employed and non employed, and delivery can occur in a range of settings from community venues to the work place.
6. Higher Education RoutewaysWorking in partnership with Cornwall, Truro and Penwith College to increase access to Higher Education. Participants will undertake a minimum of 1 level four degree module and will receive additional training and support towards employment.
7. GrundtvigThis European project aims to increase cultural awareness and promote social cohesion between the participating countries. Activities will include a Pen Pal Scheme, development of Learning Packs promoting each country’s cultural heritage and exchange visits.
8. Advice and GuidanceOur General Advisor provides free, confidential, independent and impartial advice on housing, debt and benefits. They work in Newquay, St Columb Major and St Austell.
9. Activity AgreementsThis project provides five days of activities including two days of work experience and short training courses as required .
